Local Rules

Out of Bounds (Rule 18)

  • Beyond any hedge, fence, wall or line of white stakes or white lines defining the course boundary. (Where there are more than one, the innermost is the definition).
  • The clubhouse, car park and surroundings as defined by the white stakes
  • The pathway to the 1st and 10th tees as defined by white stakes
  • The practice area between the 2nd ,3rd ,4th & 17th holes as defined by white stakes
  • In or beyond the ‘Slade’ stream right of hole 9th and left of hole 11th

Abnormal Course Conditions (Rule 16.1)

Ground Under Repair (relief may be taken) Areas enclosed by white lines or ropes and/or indicated by GUR notices

Immovable Obstructions (relief may be taken)

  • Artificially surfaced paths
  • Fixed course furniture
  • Close to putting greens, relief for interference to line of play by an immovable obstruction may be taken if both the ball and the obstruction are in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less and the obstruction is:
    • Within two club-lengths of the putting green and
    • Within two club-lengths of the ball
  • Exception – No relief if the chosen line of play is clearly unreasonable
  • No Play Zones (relief must be taken)
  • Areas enclosed by white lines or ropes and/or indicated by NPZ notices
  • Staked or otherwise supported/protected young trees
  • Newly turfed and seeded areas


Suspension of Play (Rule 5.7)

A player is permitted to suspend play in accordance with Rule 5.7a. In the event of a suspension of play by the committee players must stop play in accordance with Rule 5.7b.

a) Immediate suspension: (Where there is immediate danger) will be signalled by one prolonged note of the siren.

b) Normal suspension: (Such as darkness or unplayable course) will be signalled by three consecutive notes of the siren.

In either case, resumption of play will be signalled by two short notes of siren.

Penalty for playing from Wrong Place in Breach of Local Rule:

General Penalty Under Rule 14.7a (Match Play – Loss of Hole; Stroke Play – 2 Strokes)


In addition to the local rules above, the following temporary local rules apply until further notice.


Preferred Lies:

When a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area:

  • Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.
  • Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: Within 6 inches from the reference point, but within these limits:
  • Limits on Location of Relief Area:
    • Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
    • Must be in the general area.

In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and  14.2e.
