Description

One of the strongest opening holes in the area, with an uphill tee shot to a fairway running right to left…into a steep fairway bunker! Bunkers guard the front of the green, so ensure the approach shot is struck with accuracy.

Pro's tip

Favour the right of the fairway from the tee to avoid the difficult fairway bunker on the left. Choose your club carefully so your approach finds the correct level of this two tiered green.

Mature parkland, it’s superb. The par-5 3rd is a good hole up the hill and the 17th is strong too, but I like the par-5 that runs along the bottom to end the front nine. The perimeter of the course stretches down to the right-hand side and the tee shot is all important, calling for a draw into a sloping fairway. You must hit the fairway here to give yourself a chance of going for the green.
